A book by a Catholic charismatic "prophet" was recently brought to my attention.

The "prophet" is Helen Silvestri, who wrote the book With God There Is Hope: Hope for Humanity under the pen-name of Ellen Chaksil.

The book is available at amazon.com (SEE: http://www.amazon.com/God-There-Hope-Humanity/dp/0979504511/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264089995&sr=8-1 ) and is even downloadable as an ebook if you have a Kindle reader (or, if like me, you have a PC and have downloaded and installed the free, Kindle-for-PC software.) Opting for an ebook saves a few trees and a few dollars, but wait... there's more.

The main prophecy of the book is the "word" that Helen Silvestri "heard" in 1978 soon after she had been baptized in the Holy Spirit. The prophecy was “When they are threatened with the loss of all this, only then will they turn to Me.” A vision of the destruction of the Vatican accompanied this "word".

Over the next thirty years, as the book describes, Helen suffered all kinds of angst about revealing this prophecy. She even, in all naivete, wrote letters to two popes in the hope of alerting them to what was coming down the pike--sort of a "heads-up" warning.

In the meantime, Helen began to realize that the destruction of the Vatican was just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. She was more likely foreseeing a global catastophe such as the reversal of the earth's magnetic poles.
Helen found some corroboration of this impending doomsday scenario in the writings of Immanuel Velikovsky, a scientist who wrote "Worlds in Collision" in the 1950's. To counteract the catastrophe, Helen says that she was made aware of the remedy--get everyone in the world to pray in unison. Prayer would generate enough energy to either thwart or undue the catastophe altogether. Again, she found corroboration for this "energy effect" of prayer in the writings of Dr. Boguslaw Lipinski. If you're interested in either of these two authors, use Google to do your own research about them.
Having read Helen's book, I searched the Web some more and found that she had started her own BLOG in 2008. SEE: http://catholiccharismaticprophecies.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2008-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-05%3A00&updated-max=2009-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-05%3A00&max-results=28

I could have saved the cost of the ebook if I'd known that Helen had posted much of her book on the blog, for free. (On the other hand, I see, on Amazon, that the book is available for one cent plus shipping and handling).

Having read the book, my first reaction was that it belonged in the genre of the "Chicken Little: the Sky Is Falling" story. On the other hand, it could also belong to the genre of the "2012" movie.

You may enjoy the book. It's a good read for those who are interested in "what goes on in the mind and life of a person given the responsibility of prophesying the end of an age?" The book actually chronicles the writing of the book itself. It's full of anecdotes about Helen's family and friends-in-high-places. On the other hand, if you're a devotee of the Marian apparitions in Medugorge or Garabandal, etc. you may react negatively to what Helen Silvestri has to say about these apparitions: I know that I did.

PS: for those interested in other Catholic charismatic prophecies, especially those that have appeared on the Web, SEE: http://catholiccharismatic.us/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=637

More later,

What does she say about Medjugorje? I am a devotee of OUr Lady's messages there for certain.

Ellen Chaksil tends to lump all Marian apparitions together and asks the question "are any of these apparitions from God or could they be the 'angel of light' disguised as Mary so as to lead people to worship her rather than her Son?"

She seems to 'discern' that some of the apparitions are diabolical or merely human, but she doesn't say this directly.

But wait: the Church already does what she's asking for. She could have looked on the Web for a list of approved and disapproved apparitions. Duh!?
