My way of thinking is if people were healed by walking in the 'shadow' of the apostles, does God desire any less of us in today's world. NO!

The apostles cowered in the shadows of the world. Yet after the Holy Spirit fell, then people walked in their shadows. e.g. Act 5:15 so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.

The apostles knew Jesus, they knew almost everything about him. Up until then, they were timid and shy. It is God's power, not man's....

Fr. Cantalamessa states it so clearly.. See my previous post at http://ccc.garg.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1412

This is a great ...

In his homily the Pope spoke of the first Pentecost, when the phenomenon of preaching in tongues showed how the Holy Spirit can bring unity out of chaos, "overcoming the curse of Babel." He said that only the Holy Spirit "can free humanity from the constant temptation to seek an earthly power that wants to dominate and standardize everything."

I know of reliable Catholic Charismatic priests who pray in the Gift of Tongues during exorcism. Further, all the exorcists who are priests I know depend on Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Yet, this subject has drawn much negative attention. However, their bishops and the Church apparently are not against this. It is only people who are not priests and certainly not in the ministry of deliverance who make negative remarks.

Can any of you clarify this. For me, I know what they do is good and just.

Many Blessings,
Tony

Have you ever read Fr. Larry Gesy's book called "The Hem of His Garment"? It is mostly about healing but he also talks a bit about deliverance. He is an anointed priest for certain.

I hope that works. It appears that posting in a forum you have to use these Message Body buttons.

The above article plainly states about Fr. Fortea praying in Tongues during what I believe was a simple exorcism. The article doesn't say. I thought you would all like to read this. I also remind that the Church has rules or laws that govern these affairs.

Thanks, Tony, for the article.

I "did my homework" on Fr. Fortea and discovered that he is an official, bishop-appointed exorcist for the Madrid archdiocese. He was trained to be an exorcist by the exorcist of the Vatican, Fr. Amorth.

I'm not sure if the Roman Ritual for exorcisms allows for spontaneous prayer or praying in tongues, but if a priest who knows the ritual and has been exorcising demons from people for several years finds that "praying in tongues" helps get rid of satan, I'm not going to argue with him about the form of the ritual. (To criticize Fr. Fortea for praying in tongues while he's telling satan to get out, would be almost like the Pharisees telling Jesus that couldn't really heal people because He was violating the sabbath. )

As an aside: I'm aware that most articles that deal with exorcisms very often fail to make a distinction between the rite of exorcism and the ministry of deliverance from evil spirits. There's a difference which I'm not going to get into here. I'd recommend the book "Deliverance from Evil Spirits" by Francis MacNutt, for a very thorough description of both ministries. By the way, for those who may not know who Marino Restrepo is (he's the author of the article about Fr. Fortea mentioned by Tony in the previous message) here's a link to the first part of Marino's personal testimony on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-RyCU-RigQ
If you have not viewed this testimony, please do. You'll be praising the Lord for days after viewing Marino's talk. I know I did.

Hi Ed,

Yes, that would be a Pharisseean act to critize a priest and his ministry when he has freed many in his life devotion to Christ. Some have actually done this and even alledge he is possessed just as Jesus was accused.

I say "Praise God for He is Merciful. Amen".

Many Blessings,
Tony
